Spam BOT Banning, Your Views
« on: January 14, 2010, 04:23:37 pm »
Hello,

I'm just seeking your opinion. I'm debating whether to create an auto spam bot banning programme on smfnew. Where when a user enters your forum, our system will check if its a recognized spammer, if so, it would show them a banned message.

Just seeking your views. (just looking if anyone will oppose the idea)

 Thanks

Yes, but let admins disable it. I think it's all up to the forum owners, so letting admins disable it is the best.

What would the system check to ensure it is a spammer? Will it compare through a database like Stop Forum Spam or similar?

If that's the case, you don't need admins to disable it.

Great. Lets do it :)
When writing a support topic, remember to post: Your forum URl, forum type(smf 1x,smf2x or mybb 1x), your problem.

When leaving a suggestion, please leave only two links to the modification/plugin, otherwise it will most likely be not looked at until there is a link to the modification/plugin

Make it into a plugin/modification, where it can be enabled/disabled. There is a spam banner for mybb included with it, so have one similar to that.

How about like you let them in but in the admin section they are put on the keep a close eye list?

Because someone may not spam on the forum they want to register.
Huzzy.
