(SMF 2.0) Requesting more File Space/Attachment Space
« on: October 08, 2010, 05:05:05 pm »
Hello,

I'm the moderator/administrator of www.newbisoft.smfnew.com, a forum I created with you guys in early september for my school's video game production class.

I've been using our forum to organize game files and the game design of our development. However the current minimum size restrictions prevent us from uploading even our current game design document!

I am currently using the free host, but this is less size then I am used to. I searched attachment space/size and other variations and came across a couple of posts that made it clear I should request space here.

I hope I'm doing all the right stuff, if more space isn't available to free hosts, what sort of services do I get for the paid service? Please note that I have had some difficulty figuring out the benefits of your paid hosting as I've been quite pleased with the free host for our needs.

But file space is a must! Please help!

Thanks!

Tom England,
producer of NewbiSoft

Admin > Forum > Attachments and Avatars > Attachment Settings

Go there and you will find the settings for attachments and you can change the max file upload size so then you can upload your files...

If your files are big then set the limt to 0 so it will take the limt off and then you can upload as many files as you can,

Hope you understands this in some way

Thanks

Thank you for the timely response.

However, the file size I'm referring to is really the approximately 10 mb limit for total file storage.

Dealing with the png's and game engine's I'm soon going to be awash with I need a little bit more. (We won't be expecting to host everything on this site, in fact I use google docs for a lot of our work, and have dropbox for programming needs, but... more storage space here would simply make icing on the cake.

Or, simply make it much easier for my team ;)

Errr, I think that 10MB limit is there by SMF Admins here to save server space on there servers so I don't think you can change it,

I forgot how it works with SMF as I have Web Hosting and host all my forums my self so I don;t have that prolem.

So in the end I don't think you can chage it sorry, :/

Well I'm having issues attaching even documents within the filesize limitations.

I have used..  554.41 kB. I have nearly 9 full mg left to use.

But it won't even let me upload a .docx thats 2.6 mgs.

Strange?

NOTE - I have already set all limits to 0

We don't limit forums for 10 mb attachment usage.

Strange. It keeps giving me the timed out error (upload taking too long to process) or something like that. Until I rar'd the file.

The rar'd was 600kb, the unrared, 2600. Should not have timed out after 15 seconds. (Happens on multiple networks).

AND the File maintenance page under Forum- Files & Attachments  says we have the following

Total Attachments:13
Total Avatars:3
Total Size of Attachment Directory:1179.24 kB
Total Space Available in Attachment Directory:9060.76 kB

I still have a 10-12mb attachment limit for my total file space. My programmers now have 7mb worth in their exes.

When is this going to be solved for us?

In reference this post tells us that all we need to do is ask..

http://www.support.smfnew.com/index.php?topic=1645.0

I'm asking again please ;)

Thanks!

I still have had no response...

I have got exe's of 13 megs now. If i can't get additional space on the free forum I'd like to know that now and ways to circumvent that even through paying.

But as it is, I can't upload anything of our program. Our files include just the data/content and actual exe/xml files now.  all zipped up.
