Go onto the user's account and under "Profile Info" click "Show Permissions". This will tell you what group is giving (or denying) what permission to the user's account.

Just bumping the issue of the ranks directory being hidden, it would be nice to be able to see what ranks are available for use.

Thanks. I another question also. Before, I used to be able to navigate to http://smfnew.com/ranks and it would display the index of ranks that are available. Now, whenever I open the page, the index is not shown, but the sub-folders (custom1 - custom5) show the rank images (stars). Can the main ranks folder be re-enabled for viewing? I'd like to be able to use the images in there.

Support / Themes not displaying correctly
« on: November 13, 2012, 09:41:37 pm »
My test forum that I let my friend play around on to try and get a feel for how smf works (before breaking a copy that is needed) and when he changed the theme, everything got moved around and it didn't look how it was supposed to. I switched the theme back (took a while to find the links since they were misplaced) and the default loaded fine, but any custom theme seems to not load properly. Also, I get an error at the top stating the following:

"The default theme's directory is wrong, please correct it by clicking this text."

Even when I click the text, the error returns after refreshing the page and it doesn't seem to fix it. I'm not concerned about getting the forum to work properly again, I just want him to have a place that he can test the features out and get a hang of how it works before giving him full (or some restricted, I still don't know yet) to a fully loaded forum. I installed SMF on his webserver and I've been administering it for him because I know more about it than he does.

My test forum: http://test1.smfnew.com/

I know that smfnew doesn't delete unwanted forums but I thought I'd just let you know that I have an old test forum I made to try out smf. If you want to delete it and free up some space its test1.smfnew.com. If not it doesn't matter I figured I'd just let you know it's not being used at all.

Suggestions / Add option to administration control panel
« on: May 22, 2012, 08:20:13 pm »
I thought it would be a good idea to add a modification to the administration panel that would allow you to edit ranks of users and view the forum logs. If someone you make on the forum decides to overthrow you, they can demote your rank, make themselves admin, and promote other users to higher ranks. My idea is to set it up so you can view the forum logs (see who changed the ranks, banned users, and other actions) and also manage the member ranks. I know their is an option to create a new administrator account on the forum, but if the user is constantly watching the forum for that and has others doing it also, they can easily demote and ban the account immediately. My idea is to make it so you can promote/demote the accounts on the forum and even ban them so if they do constantly monitor it, you can have more control and overthrow them. Plus, users may not want extra accounts laying there just to keep overthrowing if they do this. It's just a thought I had, since the forum I'm administering for my friend I got demoted from the owner and I don't want to make another account just to make me admin again. If this idea is tossed I'll just make a new account but if not I'll wait for it to be added. Their's no rush, seeing I barely use the forum.

Here's an inside mod you can use. Put this in the forum name:
<img href="[IMAGE URL]" />[GROUP NAME]

Basically swap out [IMAGE URL] for the url of the image and [GROUP NAME] with the group name. Be very careful when inserting html code into the member groups, it can break your forum (my friend did this and I figured out how, I think).

If you just stick with the '<img href="" />' you should be fine. Also, make sure the character count (total characters in the group name including the html code) when finished isn't too long.

Well it doesn't matter to me now. Apparently the people I made the forum for decided to install it on their website instead. It is nice to know that their aren't forums just sitting there either :P

I figured that's how it would go,but I figured I'd ask anyways. Is their a way I can get the email of the owner to email him and ask him? The privacy settings hide it on the forum.

I don't think this is allowed, but I figured I'd ask to be nice. I made a forum for my friend to use for runescape a few weeks ago because he couldn't do it for some reason, so the forum is on my account for him. My question is, if their is a forum that isn't active (maybe for a certain time period), is their any chance someone could take the forum name? For instance, the forum I made is http://www.rsagency.smfnew.com/ and the one they want is http://www.rspsagency.smfnew.com/. I asked my friend if he would like to get the rsps one instead if i could get it because their site is rspsagency, not rsagency, and he said it doesn't matter but would be great.
I went onto http://www.rspsagency.smfnew.com/ and registered to send the forum owner a request to change the domain about two weeks ago, and he never responded to it. Their are only a total of three members registered on the forum (including the owner and I) and it has not changed. The forum still has all the setup of when it was first made, from what I can tell, and is just sitting there without use. Is their any timeout period a forum has of in-activeness before the domain can be reused or is it theirs forever? It's not a big deal but I figured I would do them a favor if able to.

The forum I made is pretty laggy too and the users also agree and blame it on me (jokingly). Next time I notice it I'll be sure to post back here.

Well I just want to make sure because I'm the administrator for a runescape forum and many runescape players are DDos noobs. I don't play runescape my self, but my friend asked me to make the forum for him because it wasn't letting him. I was just wondering what protection was offered for it so I know whether to be worried or not when someone threatens to DDoS the forum or site. The forum's state isn't really a problem for me since it's only under my email as the main owner of it but it's still a nice thing to know for other forums hosted on the service.

I know that is possible but also the fact that you prevent the first user from being deleted is good too, for posts reasons and such.

I was wondering what kind of protection smfnew offers for its forums from hackers such as DDoS attacks and such.

I just changed the main group to the regular one. I could leave it but if I ever get pro hosting then i can switch back easier.

This mod basically makes the very fist administrator account, that was made when the forum was, unable to be deleted by himself or other admins. It also adds some other options which dont have to be added but are there also.

I can't seem to find it. Is this for all forums or only PRO forums?
