Title: A real problem
Post by: derek frost on May 04, 2017, 10:18:57 am
Well guys I've just thought of this that most of the forums hosted on our network ain't getting much members or posts or some forums which once had more than 1000 members are dead anyway.Any reason about all this??
Currently I'm just optimising my forum Like a super improved SEO,skins, webpush,Google analytics etc and everything just going fine by the way but why does it seem like our networks are experiencing a lack of new members. ??? ???

Social media kind of hurt forums along with big google.
And some forums are just working Iike Facebook with hundreds of members online every minute, those are really hurting our business. For example take leakforums ,people say that they find the name written on public bathrooms across America  8) :p

Yeah, it is unfortunate that social media does overtake forums. I have always preferred forums to social media, personally. But no one can seem to be hassled enough to use forums nowadays when they can use social media for everything. :\ But yeah, if we were to get forums back to the way they used to be, we -- the collective community that loves forums -- would need to do some serious work to make forums more appealing to people. This would require pretty large changes to the way forums work, which I'm not sure everyone would be into.

I still think forums are better than social media, just think or remember about the feeling when you just started a topic and waited for someone to reply to it or even dreaming of creating a thread that would go hot.Unlike social media where you can talk instantly which kills creative thinking.
Why not just all of us here take an initiative to rejuvenate our forums and reach out to people to use forums again.
Also forums have something in common that they protect your privacy to the best.

Oh absolutely, I much prefer forums even to this day. Social media is convenient, that's why it's popular. But I still love forums more, and I wish there were a way to rejuvenate them and revolutionize them so that we can make them popular again. I'd say the social network that killed forums the most would be Reddit, since Reddit is like a site where you can create your own forum-like discussion boards for different topics but they're all linked to a central database meaning you don't have to register for multiple different sites and such.

Today i just showcased my forum at a general discussions forum and the reply was "With such a focused niche you should invest in your own setup. No one uses SMF free hosting these day, invest the $10 dollars it'd cost to purchase a domain and hosting. Without that it's unlikely that users will choose your board over the many other pokemon forums out there. Tip: Also look into a better theme, I'm sure you could find something better than what you currently have, seeing as your niche is so popular."
what he heck is that guy thinkin.......... >:( >:( >:( >:(

The reason people still use SMF free hosting like SMFNew is because it's a free and simple setup. You don't have to pay anything and you don't have to mess around with setup. I mean, yeah, hosting your own forum on your own server can offer the full control over your forum if you intend to use it as, say, a corporate forum, but using free forum hosting just makes sense for forums based on an entertainment franchise like Pokemon. He probably thinks that because we manage the back end, you have little to no control over how your forum is run. Funny thing is, SMFNew -- particularly SMFNew 2.0 -- offers more customization and control than some hosts do.
