Another Avatar Problem
« on: March 21, 2008, 12:34:43 pm »
First of all, thanks for the hosting...

URL: http://www.binarystorm.smfnew.com

The problem is like that described a few threads down from this one, my avatar randomly changes. First, may I rule out anything to do with any of my forum staff, as I don't have any, I am the only member at the moment.

I used to own another SMF forum hosted with somebody else, but had the same issue. I never got time to report it because they took their server down.

It gets quite anoying having to change it back every time, and it is also nothing to do with an off-site avatar as it was uploaded. One avatar was the logo of a british porn star, so to be honest it's quite unnaceptable. It may have somehting to do with the fact that it is a shared server, but I don't know.

Any help would be aprecciated, as I would rather not have to turn the avatar system off just because of this problem.

Thanks

[/Mike]

Hello Mike, Welcome.

Okay, someone else reported this : http://www.support.phpbbnew.com/showthread.php?t=729

So i guess this IS a software issue.

Can you please let me know your MAIN avatar - the one you are trying to use but changes to something else. Link me to your forum profile please!

Secondly, please give me a screen shot of the image of which it changes to. I only need one, just to check.

Finally, how often does this happen?

Thanks,
Matt.

Thanks for the replying so soon...

So I have left a sample post here>>> http://binarystorm.smfnew.com/index.php?topic=4.0
I have also uploaded two images to this post, one my usual avatar and the other a screenshot of what it changed to.

Erm, I have only had this forum for a couple of days, so this i'm guessing is the first time that it has happen. From past experience though, it usually happend about once or twice a week.

Index.png is what it was changed to, Indexphp.png is what it used to be.

The USA/Other flag is what you want it to be?

No, the first one is what I wanted it to be, and what it originally was. and the flag is what it changed to

Hmm. Well I have had a quick search on Google to see if anyone else had the same problem and I can't find anything. Funny thing is, on my old forums there was another guy (my best mate by the way) and his avatar was fine, it never got changed. Damn, that's just strange?

You wouldn't happend to have owned SMFHost would you?

Silly question time =  are you the only administrator? Were you the one who made your forum?

Thanks.

Okay,

Other forums are able to upload avatars replacing your current one. The software cannot be updated for other reasons but shall be soon.

For now, all i can suggest is uploading your avatar to a free image host and in your profile on your forum, use the link to your avatar. Don't upload it, use a remote url.

Thanks.

If you are talking about the old ones, then no, there were several other members but only one other guy was an admin as well as me. We kept the password safe, and I trusted him not to fiddle with stuff. As far as i'm concerned, he kept to that agreement, although he's never had any experience as a webmaster so I doubt he would've known how to a do a lot. To be fair, I don't see why he would change my avatar.

And I think the fact that the same thing is happening now, even when I am the only member at current prooves that it wasn't him changing it.

Hey, I wonder whether you'll get to a 1000 posts tonight ;)

Yes, please do!

Would you like me to set up a free image host on my server for secure avatar hosting?

And no, i did not own SMFHOST but we do run the same software of which it ran.

Hmm, I've seen mods that allow you to upload images directly to ImageShack etc. Perhaps you could use something like that, instead of using your own servers.

But i'm not sure how hard to impliment that would be.
