Forums ABOUT RSPS's are safe within the SMFNew ToS - though I'd be careful about two things:

1. Try to refrain from including (or limit the use of) any Jagex-created artwork, pictures, etc on the site - this could result in Jagex sending a DMCA to us, and ultimately could end in your forum being suspended until you remove it.

2. Don't host your server off of our hosting - no webclients are allowed, nor do we allow our hosting to be used for server downloads. If we find either, we usually send a warning or two - then, if there's no response, or a refusal, we suspend the forum.

If you consider those tips, you should be okay. :)

As for your introduction - welcome to SMFNew! I don't play RSPS's anymore, as I think normal RuneScape is sufficient enough, plus I like Jagex. ;)

Thanks for your response. Very reasonable terms you have there, and I will abide by them of course :)

@๖̶̶̶̶̶̶Lewis™ : I have not officially released my server yet so my forums are blank. This is because:
1. I am still actively working on the server, it's about 95% ready to play
2. I am waiting for my TLD to be approved because, I don't want to be promoting my site as "smfnew" (no offence, but doesn't look professional :p)

Will pass out the link soon ("watch this space")

Welcome
Uhm But the way I believe no one is allowed to have a webclient on any SMFNEW website. Anyways Welcome to SMFNEW and good luck with your runescape private server ;).

OK thanks for the tip. I actually don't have a webclient, just a download one but was thinking of making one. Guess I will use a 3rd party host and just link to it, hopefully that will be ok. :)

I have no idea if links are unique to forums or not, but I will give it a go:

Admin CP > Maintenance > Forum Maintenance > Database > Backup Database > Tick all boxes > Download

Quote
This area allows you to save a copy of all the posts, settings, members, and other information in your forum to a very large file.

It is recommended that you do this often, perhaps weekly, for safety and security.

I did this on my "blank" forum (no posts/members) because I was playing about with various mods, mine was only 40kb but it grows with forum size.

New User Introduction / Hello

Hi

I do apologise for jumping straight into the support section before even starting a small intro, I have ran forum previously (it was a couple of years ago) and just wanting to start one up again. However, this is my first time playing about with SMF so still got a lot to learn.

This looks like a great resource, and I knew almost immediately that I'd want the pro hosting package as I already got a picture in my mind of what the forum should feature. I like how simple everything is made and the support seems excellent so far so keep up the great work staff.

To be more specific, I am going to be starting up an RSPS shortly (I'm sure some people here will know what that stands for!) so I decided to use you guys for forum hosting if that would be OK?

Regards

Mojo

Edit: My 6th post and the annoying (captcha) verification has stopped Woohoo :)

Thank you very much for all replies, really helpful :)

-I have managed to do the first one. The theme I am using was one that I had purchased on another website, they gave me the files which I had uploaded to the admin cp of my forum to get it to work. So what I had to do was open windows explorer and navigate to SMF-theme\images\custom\logo.png and open it with paint to edit it. Then just zip up the thing and upload it back on to admin cp to update the change.

-just going through some mods to add buttons and webpages, hope I can find one! I do remember that the free smfnew hosting does actually have the ability to create new pages so if you can tell me if that is done by a mod or something that would be great?

-added simple portal :)

-found out where it is to make it return to topic after posting by default. For those of you who are interested how I did it, you can do this by starting in your admin cp, and then: Your Forum > Administration Center >Themes and Layout > Member Options.  Click the "Configure guest and new user options for this theme" and pick your options there. If you already have people registered then you must also do the same for "Change current options for all members using this theme" selection as well.

Can you not see my first post?

Using pro hosting, I need help with these things:

-changing default theme logo to a custom one
-adding new webpages & new buttons on navigation bar to link to those pages
-putting a portal as the first page instead of forum
-making it so after a post is made, user returns to topic not forum section

Would appreciate any help. Thanks

I need help on all of these, if you know anything about any of these would be great.
