So if you have questions, comments, or concerns about our service, please let us know! The more feedback we receive, the better!

Thanks,

Due to database errors, we're temporarily disabling the option to create an SMF 1.1.14 forum on our signup page. There's currently an issue affecting the 1.1.14 forums, and we're working on finding out if there's a fix for these issues - but to avoid any confusion, we've decided to temporarily disable the option to create 1.1.14 forums. Sorry for any inconveniences!

In other news, we have finished the maintenance on the servers and everything seems to be up, and running properly. We upgraded MySQL to version 5.5, as well as the addition of Percona, which is a set of performance tuning tools for the database. If you experience any further issues, feel free to post about them in our Support board!

News & Updates / A Second Farewell...
« on: November 19, 2012, 10:26:48 pm »
Sadly, the time has come for Trax to leave our team again. He was with our team for a long time, but had to leave - then we invited him back, and he spent a while on the team once again. He feels it's time to move on to his own projects. We respect this decision, and wish him all the best. :)

So please join me in wishing Trax a fine farewell and good luck on his future! :)

General Discussion / Sci-Fi Mar-Bles
« on: November 03, 2012, 10:56:15 pm »
Hi everyone! After some failure with my last attempt at a maze game in GameMaker, I felt I wanted to correct the mistakes and create another game. So I started working on Sci-Fi Mar-Bles. Sure, it's not my best game I'll ever create, but it's a bit better than my last attempt at a maze game. There are some minor physics glitches here and there, but I couldn't seem to fix them. I created the entire game from scratch (unlike the last one where I used some of the sample sprites that came with that edition of GameMaker), and I did it all on my own. I'm not the best game developer ever, and the game itself is pretty basic.

Still, I had a reasonably fun time creating this game, and I suppose that is really all that matters. :)

Please let me know what you think and if anyone has some advice to make it better (I'd like to make expanded versions later, but I have other things in life to deal with), and feel free to comment! :)

Support / NOTICE : Changelog for Errors
« on: October 26, 2012, 11:09:47 am »
Hello everyone,

As you are obviously aware, we have had some recent issues with several features across the SMFNew network. This post will serve as a changelog of sorts which shows what we have fixed and what is yet to be fixed. We also encourage you that you post detailed descriptions of any issues you have, even if we've listed that we're aware of them. Your detailed descriptions help us to find the fix sooner. :)

Key:
Strikethrough text (IE - text): completely or mostly fixed/completed
Red text: unfixed, prioritised errors

  • Server move
  • Database errors
  • Wiki
  • Pro Hosting site errors
  • Sign-Up errors (Appears to be fixed - feel free to post if it isn't fixed for you.)
  • Control panel issues
  • Rank/avatar/attachment issues

If you're having any of the aforementioned problems, please reply to this topic to notify us. Please provide as many details as you can, including error messages. Like I said, the more details you provide, the more likely it is that we'll be able to fix your issue quicker. :)

Thanks,
SMFNew Staff

PS - After these issues are fixed, we will get to domain approvals and similar issues. Do not worry, we're close to being finished with these issues.

Support / NOTICE : Database Issues
« on: October 11, 2012, 06:50:14 pm »
We are aware of the recent database issues and our server techs are taking a look. We'll notify you when the issues have been fixed.

If you're having a notice that says something like this, please do not create a new topic but rather discuss the problem on this thread:

Quote
Can't create/write to file '/tmp/#sql_7c1_0.MYI' (Errcode: 28)
File: /home/smfnew/public_html/smf/2/Sources/Subs-Boards.php
Line: 1047

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 1.1.16/2.0.1, while your database is at version 1.1.6/2.0. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.

If you're having an error different than that, feel free to create a separate support topic.

FORUM DELETION

We do not delete individual forums upon request. If we are preparing to delete inactive forums, you will all be notified in the News & Updates board. Any valuable forums that are active and contain posts will NEVER be deleted as long as they correspond with our Terms of Service.

You can, however, disable your forum by enabling Maintenance Mode. Maintenance Mode denies access to the forum for any accounts that are below the rank of Administrator. To enable Maintenance Mode, please follow the steps below:

Admin » Features and Options » Maintenance Mode » Check the box

REPORTING A FORUM

If you would like to report a forum for misuse of our Terms of Service, please DO NOT post about it here. Instead, visit the report page.

RENAMING YOUR FORUM/CHANGING FORUM URL
Currently, we do not offer forum URL changes. However, if you wish to change your forum's title, you can change it via the Administration Center by following this path:

Admin > Forum Settings > "Forum Title"

INFORMATION POLICY

SMFNew will not be held responsible for damages done to your forum if you give out login details. Your information is solely your responsibility, and we cannot be held liable for negligent acts by our users. Additionally, admin privileges should only be given to people that you trust. See our Tips & Resources board for tips on running a forum.

FORUM RESTORE POLICY

As a premier forum host, we make daily backups of our servers to ensure that no permanent damages can be made. Restoring forums takes considerable time and effort that takes valuable time away from other tasks. As a result, we charge a one-time fee of $2.95 to restore a forum, regardless of how many posts, members or ranking it has. This fee, in its entirety, goes toward maintaining and improving SMFNew for our users.

To request a forum restore, please follow these instructions:

Create a post in the Support board and ensure that the TOPIC TITLE includes the following text: "Forum Restore Request"

You MUST include the following in your post (excluding the text in [brackets]):

Quote
Forum Link:
Date of forum creation: [estimate if you're unsure]
Email used to create the forum: [the one you entered on www.smfnew.com/signup.php]
I would like my forum restored on, or before, the following date:

FTP/WEBMASTER ACCESS

Due to our proprietary framework, we are unable to offer FTP access or other backend webmaster access to our forums. This is due to security concerns; we take our security very seriously. If we were to offer backend access to their forum(s), anyone would be able to gain access to any forum on the network.

Examples of prohibited webmaster access:
Uploading PHP files (including modifications/plugins and themes)
cPanel/WHM
FTP
phpMyAdmin
Awstats

No FREE FORUM HOSTING SERVICE will allow you access to any of these tools due to the same security reasons.

SUPPORT VIA EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION

While we deeply appreciate the help our users offer to each other, we do not permit the use of external services or methods of communication for support. These services include, but are not limited to, phone calls, social media, Skype, Teamspeak, Discord. The reason behind this policy is that we cannot confirm the validity of the information offered across these platforms. Additionally, please do not use Private Messaging via the forums for support. Please use our support forum if you need help with our service. Our staff are more than happy to help you and so are some of your fellow users! Our staff can be identified by a title right under their name. The only official SMFNew staff titles are Administrator and Support Specialist.

Thank you for taking the time to read our policies!

Support / NOTICE : Database Errors
« on: September 30, 2012, 09:25:41 pm »
We are aware of the issues, and we are still working on them. Please stay patient with us.

The staff are instructed to lock any future topics on the matter and direct the poster to this thread.

You may discuss the issues on this thread if you wish, but please do not create any more topics on the matter until they're fixed. It gives us a lot of topics on the same matter, and can be a bit confusing both for our users and our staff.

Thanks for your cooperation and patience! :)
