Sorry for double-post, but it's been a few weeks so I figure it's okay. :)
I was just wondering if any progress has been made to beginning pro-hosting transfers again. The other question (the main one I came here for today :P) was do we have to continue running SMF on pro hosting. I know it's "unlimited" but since this is smfnew, I wanted to make sure.

Thanks,

For problem 1)
Go to http://smfnew.com/manage
Once there you should see a list of forums you have created. lopfroum.smfnew.com should be there for you, click in the link that says "Manage Forum"
There  you will see several options under Forum Tasks. Select "Rename Forum" - you will be able to change your forum's address there.

Problem 2)
SMFnew upgrades the entire network of free forums at once. You can't upgrade your forum individually unless you have pro hosting.

Hope that helped! :)

Okay, thank you for your response. We will look into possibly doing our upgrade in 2 phases then. Good luck figuring our your internal changes, etc. :)

Hope I'm not being a pest. :) I was just wondering if there is a vague return date for purchasing pro hosting? I understand the uncertainty of technology and that the problems being experienced are being ...persistent... I was just curious if you guys have any idea at all. It'd help me and my site staff in planning our upgrade. If it takes a while we may just need to upgrade in 2 parts. Do what we can without prohosting, followed by the larger pieces which depend on on pro.
I do understand, however, that your priority is getting everything back to normal and that these things are difficult to find an end date for. :)

Thanks again for your time.

Thanks Jaekob and Trax. :)
@Trax: That was my plan. I figure there is no point in upgrading while staff or busy with getting everything back up to snuff. Just means more time to get my ducks in a row and minimize downtime during the changes I am planing!

I don't have any more questions for now. I'll keep this 'unsolved' in case I have any more randomly pop-into my head. Thanks everyone!

Sorry for the double post, however I thought it would be okay since 24 hours have past. :)

It is in regards to the actual purchasing process. I know that transfers aren't going through right now due to the fixing of issues on the free service, however if I were to purchase the actual pro hosting plan i about a week (which is when I'm looking to do it, after Christmas), can I actually purchase it right now - or is that disabled until transfers will resume?

Going with that, if purchasing does work, will the funds transfer immediately to smfnew, of after the transfer process begins? Basically I don't want to pay the plan, have the money transfer, only to not get use of it for a few weeks or months.

Thanks for your ongoing support, it is appreciated. :)

You don't really need to ask. Pro-hosting here allows you to host what you want providing its legal, just like any other host.

Most scripts will run just fine. Its highly unlikely you will use more resources than your allowed.

Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up. Nice to know... I doubt my site in its current size will use too much in terms of resources.

Just a suggestion-If you are ever gonna add something Via FTP (like something non-related like a live chat or something) you should ask the staff before you do just so your on the safe side. ;)

Way ahead of you on that one. :) Rather be safe than have to take it down...
Most of what I plan to add is just packages/themes/mods for SMF. The chat is probably the only thing, and that's lower on the priority list.

Okay, thank you for the response. The time between now and orders being processed again should be enough time for me to determine whether or not to go through.

Okay, that's good to know. I don't have plans to host an MMO, so we're good there. Nice to know it isn't limited, within reason. I don't think we'll have problems but if we do I'm sure we can easily fix them. As for the domains, okay thanks. We won't be adding one right after, anyways. So there's no rush.

Thanks again for your help. If anything else comes up I'll ask, but for now I'm good. :)

Thanks for the information.

Regarding 1 - Are transfers back on though? (i.e. Can I buy pro hosting today and be moved within the normal timeframe?)

Regarding 2 - Thanks, that'd be appreciated. :)

Regarding 3 - Okay, thanks for letting me know. That basically means I have to come up with back-up solution in case I can no longer afford hosting and donations would not cover it. However, it is nice to know if I don't get a back-up I would be able pick up where we left off once I can afford it again.

Regarding 4 - That isn't a problem. Although DzinerStudio themes are nice, I'll probably not end up purchasing them. I understand why  you do that though, seeing as with FTP access people could download them and then use the themes elsewhere. I already have a free theme I am looking at using that should work great with some minor modifications. :)

--

Just a question I was wondering about: Is pro hosting unlimited (bandwidth, disc space)? I just want to make sure if my site were to really take off my hosting bill isn't going to suddenly rise.

Edit: Also, sorry for the million questions. :P On pro hosting does the domain approval process work the same? I am looking at doing the site upgrades/pro transfer before getting my site .com/.net/etc. domain.

Other than that, that should be it (for now at least.) Thanks for your help already, it's greatly appreciated.

Support / Pro Hosting Questions
« on: December 15, 2012, 07:28:28 pm »
Hello All,

I'm considering purchasing pro hosting for my website. The free service has been good aside from some of the problems related to the server move but hey, things happen. Although the site is small, we've been expanding features that are stand-alone from our site. We could continue on the free service, but I'm increasingly looking to add new features that we simply can't with the free service.

The main thing we are looking to do is unite our current off-site file exchange and add a chat, as well as the freedom to install other mods and themes of our choosing. Before I begin the process though, I have a few questions...

1 - I vaguely remember that due to the problems from the server move in October that pro hosting transfers were put on hold. Is that true or did I imagine that? :P If pro host transfers are on hold, when will transfers begin again - if there is any timeline? I have a limited time line to get transferred and do the site upgrades.

2 - If we transfer to pro hosting and buy the 6 month plan, if after 3 months we decide not to continue on with the pro hosting, would we be able to get a refund for the remaining portion of the plan we purchase?

3 - Semi-related to the above question, can we go back from pro to the free service. (Assuming we lose the extra mods, etc.)?

4 - Are the themes on the free service available to pro hosting users? If not, it's not a major problem. We have some options available.

That's it for now. Thanks in advance. I'm not 100% sure if we will transfer yet, still a few things to work out. :)
Also, would it be okay to use this thread if I have additional question... sort of like a pre-sales thread?

Your help is much appreciated. :)

Mine seems to be fine... I was able to access the forums management section which previously didn't work.

We're still working on the issue - we'll let you know if we have any updates. :)

Thanks for keeping us updated. :) My forum recently had the issue start up again in the Admin Panel.

Maintenance Mode is an option.

Go to Admin > Configuration > Features and Options > "Disable Board?" > Check Box

Your forums will then be in maintenance mode and available only to administrators.

I personally would recommend http://www.namecheap.com for domains i have used them for quite a few years now and never had a problem, also check there facebook page for discount codes ;)

That's in fact who I'm looking at... their prices seem fair and reviews seem to be okay. :)
