Thanks to both of you. :) Hope to see you the at some point, Jaekob.

Trax: Thanks, I recently redid it during a forum-wide remodel. That was exactly the aim.
And yes, Sims sites are popular. A site dedicated to SimCity 4 and City-Building games in general easily has over 500000 members and over 1.2 Mililon posts... it's a popular genre. Hopefully we can capture a larger piece of the pie, if you will. :P

I'm actually investigating domains now, checking out various registrars. That should happen by years end, perhaps. We'll see. :)

« on: October 31, 2012, 01:56:31 pm »
Hello!

I'm here to talk about my site (obviously :P) called Simopsis. We opened up in April of this year on a different free forum service. Long story short, we moved here and started completely from scratch. Since starting up here at SMFNew we've grown to 19 members and 560+ posts. We're certainly not huge, but we are far more active than every since moving here. In fact, we outgrew the size of our old site in the first month after moving here. :)

A little about the games we cover: we focus heavily on SimCity 4, The Sims 3 and the upcoming 2013 SimCity Release. We also, to a lesser extent, focus on CitiesXL and The Sims 2. For these game we have areas to have general discussions about the games as well as areas to show off your work. Like many newer, smaller sites the hub of activity is in our off-topic section, however we are growing in the games discussion department. We also have areas for discussion on "other" sim games, and have not ruled out adding devoted boards to other games as discussion on them grows.

We recently completed an update which saw the site get a new look (dubbed Simopsis 2.1) and new layout. We've been growing steadily, and would love to see any of you looking at this thread to join. As part of this remodel, we recently launched an off-site file exchange so you can upload your MODs/Content for the games we cover. It is just starting out, and we are actively recruiting members to upload their content to it.

We also have "creator boards" where teams of custom content creators or individuals show off their work. I encourage you to check it out. :)

The site staff and other members would love to see you join our site. We're actively recruiting members and trying to grow our site. I encourage you to join and check it out. If you have any feedback please feel free to post it on the site or here!

Out address is:

Cheers!

I'll throw my support behind this, even if we don't get it for a while. Should come in handy down the line, I'm sure.

Mooner is correct, there is nothing you can do personally. SMFNew has to fix it themselves, you cannot upgrade yourself on free hosting. For updates and more information, check out the official database issues thread located here: http://www.support.smfnew.com/index.php?topic=8562.0

Support / Attachment Space - Possible Increase?
« on: October 19, 2012, 04:48:47 pm »
Howdy.

I'm looking at expanding my forum's offering, and am hoping to include a section where members of our site can download modifications and additional features for the various games we cover. These would be user-created mods. The users would attach them to posts in a special forum devoted to downloads.

Currently, the overall storage limit for our forum in terms of attachments to posts is 10MB. I was wondering if it would be possible to have it increased? A typical file is around 3MB-5MB in size (everything would be in .zip format), however we'd institute a maximum of 10mb for a single file.

If it is possible, is there a fee for the increase? (and if so, how much would that be? Is it possible to get increased storage space without PROHosting?)

I understand that the priority is getting the service back up to 100% (which obviously makes sense). So I understand even if possible it may be a while, until everything is back to normal.

My site: http://simopsis.smfnew.com

Thanks!

Hello, my site (simopsis.smfnew.com) seems to be experiencing a 500 Internal Server Error. Below is the message:

Quote
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@smfnew.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/2.2.23 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.23 OpenSSL/1.0.0-fips DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at www.simopsis.smfnew.com Port 80

The error occurs when a user tries to use this code:

Code: [Select]
[img]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/44684960/Cities%20XL/dc10212.png[/img]
The "img" code still works, we tested using an image from the users imgur account.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
sL

If it's the same reason as most other forums, it is likely the database errors. Many forums have been down for a week as well. Check out this topic: http://www.support.smfnew.com/index.php?topic=8518.0

Okay, thanks for your reply. I know during the move my forum had some hiccups, but nothing major.  Hopefully this is all sorted out soon. :)

Thanks!

Just curious; do you the staff know what the issue is (what's causing the database errors)? Just curious so I could have something semi-new to tell my members other than "Our host is having problems with their database."

Thanks for your continued work.

If I'm not mistaken it has to do with the recent server move SMFNew has been doing. I believe the majority of forums have had this problem (on the free service) - mine included. The error message flips between the 2 you mentioned from my experience.

The simplest solution is enabling the photo resizer option which automatically resizes photos. To get to this, go to:
Admin > Features and Options > Layout
There you will see "Max width of posted pictures" with a box next to it. If you want the photos to only be 800 pixels wide (for example) type 800px into the box.

Hope this helps!
