Have opened signups on SMFNew2.com hopefully in time will add more and more SMFNew features.
Progress on restoration about 50% just uploading files then have to write a couple conversion scripts then should be good to go.

The wiki I still thinking about the problem with there was so much spam.... have to think what I am going to do with it.
Have the database all copied from smfnew will next work on restoring the forums.

Are you working on the Home?
It is not accessible.
Change upon the most viewed and accessed page would really be a great choice.
I believe it would be more eye-catching, and persuasive for new users to join. :p

Yes. I am still working on it will be a couple of days.. Noticed alot of spammers on this forum now trying to login trying to block them.

Have tested one forum on smfnew.com looks good being converted. About 25% done converting forums.
Also running a script to clean up any spam members. Spam posts will still be there but hopefully this should clean a lot of spam registrations.
Only worry I have at the moment is the spam load depending on how many spammers are trying to access the forums. This support forum was over run with registrations before.

Yeah, that was one issue I always attempted to take care of, but one man, going through a massive list of users, makes it kind of hard to keep the spambots under control. :P

May I please make the suggestion of keeping SimplePortal.
We, from the early days of SMFNew, all used the advantage of SimplePortal.
Seeing that you have taking that option away from the free hosted personaly
gets to me.
I still love that updates though and keep them coming please.

Issue with simple portal is the shoutbox is pretty instensive I might bring it back for classifc forums.
Right now SMFNew is under huge attack of spam bots.... I have all forums copied trying to see what i can do to help reduce the load.

Have turned on all forums.
Stuff left todo:
Import avatars, import attachments. Find forums on SMF 1.1.x and run upgrade to SMF 2.0.x

Have turned the forums off again. Had turned them on but seems to be a lot of spam bots still active.
Going to rescan delete any active spam bots and their posts.
Will do in the next day or two.

Doing another forum test for now. Forums may come online and go offline depending on spam levels.
I wrote a couple scripts and kill off a lot of spam accounts/posts so hopefully will help wil be watching how it goes

OK, so, I'm really interested in the big picture with SMFnew over the last couple years. It seemed as though it was getting slower and slower and slower, then there were prolonged outages, brief periods of performing beautifully followed by bad performance again, then everything was just gone period, now it's back and running beautifully, new ownership.... Who are you? What happened to Matt? Is the spam what was slowing everything down? LOL I'm sorry to pry but I am curious about as much as you're willing to share. :)

I have been following SMFNew for many years now and finally had a chance to take over. I run many forum hosts almost 10 years now using all types of forum hosting software.
The key issues with SMFNew were
Spam - thousands of spam posts/thousand of logins/registrations daily really made the site slow.
Database structure not optimal.
Site/database queries not optimized. - Caching
Content optimization CDN
Still there are more things I want to do just when I have time to code them all.

One day.... I do a lot of things. Mainly a software developer. But own a couple software as service companies. I just bought another company this week moving them in this weekend into our offices so long days for me.

OK, not as terrifying as I might have thought. LOL But still fascinating. Thanks for the info. Hopefully your fresh outlook on the situation here will help in the long run. Thanks for what you've done already! It's great to see everything back up and running well.

Should have fixed Smileys,Avatars and Attachments for all restored SMFNew forums.

Wonderful news! I have followed the new owner since we started SMFNew many years ago. It is now in GREAT hands and you guys will be looked after very well. The team behind SMFNew now are excellent coders and will have some exciting things to release shortly I am sure!
