Title: Suggestion - Stricter Agreement/Boundaries
Post by: Ninja111 on April 11, 2013, 08:08:38 pm
Require a registration agreement that members have to agree to when making a forum.

What i suggest the agreement should require/have;

Suggestion1
When new members want to make a new forum, they will first have to register a account to the SMFNew forum.
That will work out in multiple ways. One, you will know more of whom the owner(s) are of the forums being made,
and if they run into problems and need support then they can use the same account they registered to make
their new forum(s).

Suggestion2
Also, For free hosted members. Set better boundaries of how many forums they can make.
I would say two is the best number. If the user wants to take one or more of his forums offline,
that is if the user that uses suggestion1, then you will know he is the actual owner through the ip
of server registration and he should be able to make a new one. Like i said, two would be a good limit
for free hosted members.

Suggestion3
Going off of suggestion one registration, Make a new registration agreement. It is not a requirement for members
to read the registration agreement when making a forum. Therefor, i believe if you require a strict agreement stating;
"illegal acts will lead to immediate deletion of your forum", then that will make more understanding of right and wrong.

I like that first suggestion, but I'm not sure how we would integrate the two. It would certainly be a hard project.

We used to have a limit of 7 forums per IP. However, we removed this, because it was making users unhappy - they can't delete forums, so if they decide they want to do a different forum than the ones they had, they were out of luck.

As for the third suggestion, that is certainly an excellent idea. I honestly never noticed that we didn't have one before-hand. :P That is one suggestion we certainly can take into action.

Thanks for the ideas, we appreciate it. :)

No problem Jake.
Just want to help, because SMFNew is a host that I like and advertise to others.

Edit:
Coming to the latest smf 2.0.4 release, i think you guys should update that before you
allow forums to be made.

It's great that you recommend SMFNew to others, that's much appreciated. :) I'll take a look at the changelogs to see if it's necessary to upgrade the 2.x forums to 2.0.4.

Ninja: Really nice suggestions but i noticed that people are just clicking "I agree" Most of 90% of peoples are not awarenof agreement what it says, So their must be a timer like when the user click on Register, Countdown starts for redirecting the user to registration field.

Some great ideas there ninja111 :)

However i feel that suggestion 1 would turn more people away due to the fact that members want a simple signup process so they can be on-line asap.

Suggestion2 is a great idea and i agree we should restrict the number of signups per users, there is no need for any member to need more than two forums and the fact that you can now change your forums names from the control panel too.

Suggestion3 without doubt, this should have being implemented long ago.

Only Todd K can give the go ahead for upgrades, seen as he is the only person here that can run them. I feel that we should consider the upgrade now that we are on the fourth security patch, but like i say its Todds decision, but i will mention it to him :)

Hi there,

Just thought I'd add a couple of thoughts here.

1. I can see that people would want to set up a forum with ease and quickly but compared to the alternative of creating a forum from scratch so to speak, a sign up process that requires a bit more may not have a negative effect at all.

2. As a member of another smf forum there was a registration agreement there followed by having to insert a key word into a box to complete the registration process. This word was contained somewhere within the registration agreement which meant new users were somewhat forced to read the agreement and/or rules to find it. This was a pain in the butt but useful nonetheless.

Just my humble thoughts.

Cheers,

Kris
