Cows will oink, pigs will woof and dogs will moo.
What happens if that above were actually to happen?

Facebook doesn't go down for maintenance as much as forums do. :P

Go to Admin > Simple Portal > Block Settings

There, you should see an option "Enable Left Side Blocks" (should be the first one) - uncheck it. That should disable those blocks along the side of your forums.

Hope that helps,

To upload your own themes you need prohosting, for details check out http://www.smfnew.com/pro/ - you cannot install any mods or themes on the free network.

Hope that helps,

Banned because if users posted support topics for every little thing, the support forum would, more likely than not, explode. :P

You can display a redirect link on your board index - it will display like a forum. To do this just go to your admin panel where you'd create a new forum, there should be a little box towards the bottom "set as redirect link", check it. Insert the link you want. Here's an image to help you:

This is the best way to do it on SMFnew without prohosting.

Hope this helped.

Hope you don't mind me butting in. Perhaps the smfnew staff could discuss/consider doing what besommer is asking about for forums that are over a certain size, and for a fee, much like how the transfer from the free network to the pro network is $30. Just have it go the other way. As mentioned it'd be a lot of work, however perhaps charging a fee would make up for that.

I don't know what your (smfnew) process for introducing new services/fees is, it's just something that could be worth a look at even if it doesn't start up for a while.

Support / Increase In Database Errors
« on: January 20, 2013, 09:44:24 pm »
Hey All,

Just thought I'd let you know that since the server maintenance on Friday I've noticed an increase in database errors or "SMF Cannot Connect to the Database" errors across the network. This includes here on the support forum, my own forum (http://simopsis.smfnew.com) as well as another forum on the free network (http://cheesesc4.smfnew.com). As mentioned, it's both the error where you are on a blank page with the "SMF Cannot Connect to the Database" error, as well as the SMFNew "Uh oh, Can't Connect to the database!" error page.

Just thought I would let you know. Their frequency only increased after Friday's server work.

Support / Re: How can I fix that? :S
« on: January 20, 2013, 09:31:15 pm »
I'm thinking that they want to remove one of the sets of "Reply / New Poll", etc. buttons and have it only once on a page.
For sure you would need pro hosting to do that. Beyond that, I'm not entirely sure how you'd do that. Is possibly I'd assume it's somewhere in the template files. But I honestly have no idea. Sorry about that.

You'd need to buy pro hosting separately from your domain assuming you buy your domain from a separate registrar (ie Namecheap) - a link to the pricing: http://pro.smfnew.com/order/cart.php

As you will notice there is also an option to buy pro hosting along with domain registration for an extra amount per length of the term you choose (monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, annually.)

Hope this helped!

Support / Re: Pro Hosting Questions
« on: January 18, 2013, 08:54:19 pm »
My site staff have discussed and we decided that we would stay with SMF. Partly for performance, partly for the familiarity. With all the changes going on with our planned upgrade staying the course on SMF, at least for now, makes the most sense. Also with regards it chat I have officially decided that chat isn't going to go through, due to hosting and no desire to manage it.

Trax: Experienced that problem with another site I am staff of, hosting has proven to be an issue, but they have found something that works well enough.

Just another quick question. I can't remember if I have asked this (if I have, sorry :P) Are payments automatically renewed or not? If not, do we get a renewal notice? I would hate to forget and end up being offline for a few days until payment goes through again.

Thanks again!

Support / Re: How do I get a better shout-box?
« on: January 17, 2013, 10:05:03 pm »
Judging by this post, he's on SMFNEW: http://www.support.smfnew.com/index.php?topic=7290.msg46788#msg46788

As for the original post here, I think he's asking how to get a shoutbox like that one, not that he already has it.
So as Mstcool mentioned, without prohosting you can only use the SimplePortal shoutbox atm.

SMFNew updates the version of SMF for the entire network at once (for free forums). You can only upgrade yourself if you have pro hosting.
Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the replies everyone!
Jaekob: Thanks for the clarification. We're looking at a switch to MyBB as a possibility. Our test site was recently suspended because the webhost was a bit of a scam (think 3 numbers to start and you'll know what I'm talking about... :P) - so we are going to try SMF, MyBB and possibly phpBB. Legally obtained shouldn't be a problem - I'm not big on the stealing thing.

Mstcool: This is something we're looking into as well, add some "spice" :)

Trax: Thanks for the info. It's nice to know it's a standard hosting environment. Chat scripts was something I was considering, but not being allowed is not a deal breaker. It's not really required.

Again, thanks everyone. The info is appreciated!
