News Archive / SMF 2.0 Hosting
« on: July 04, 2011, 09:14:30 am »
Hello,

We now offer SMF 2.0 hosting. We have upgraded all SMF 2 RC 4 forums to SMF 2.0, for free. SMF 2.0 is the stable version of the SMF 2 branch; the latest release. It provides many bugs fixes and stability improvements.

SMFNEW NOW RECOMMEND YOU RUN SMF 2.0 INSTEAD OF SMF 1.1.14!

Unforunately, the following themes were dropped, as the author has not updated them (there is nothing we can do about this - you should bug the author!)

  • clear mind v2
  • dark modern
  • fuzzy
  • dino light
  • mylee
  • Presence
  • Skm Night
  • Twitter color

Instead, we have added 3 new themes! Please find the images of them attached. These 3 themes are PREMIUM; we had to pay for them! We hope you find them as beautiful as we do.

  • New Balance
  • Citiez
  • Micolo

You won't be able to use these themes just yet - because of the way our system works these themes are installed in batches of forums. It can take anywhere up to 12 hours before you can use the theme on your forum even if another forum has them installed before you.

If you have any troubles with the new software please let us know in a support topic.

Thank you!

News Archive / Server Move Complete
« on: June 30, 2011, 09:37:13 am »
Hello,

I have created this post to inform you what changes we have made in regards to our servers which run your forums. We hope you find this thread informative!

Why?

First of all, we fully recognized that the old servers that run your forums were not the best; periods of downtime to slow load times. Therefore, we have heavily invested in a new server behind a superior network. As you may have known, we used to run two servers, one being a database server. We have consolidated all our data into one very powerful server; this new server is loaded with RAM and has a superior CPU.

We are already noticing huge differences in load times. For instance, this support forum used to load in around 1.5 seconds, it is now consistently loading in less than 0.5 seconds (see the footer). The same applied to your forums - the support forum is using the same server that your forums use!

What do I have to do?

As we are already running on the new server - you don't have to do anything, it's already been done! However, if you are a pro hosting customer or use your own private domain name for your forum, then you will have to make one minor change, that is, your nameservers:

OLD NAMESERVER -> NEW NAMESERVER
ns3.smfnew.com -> ns1.smfnew.com
ns4.smfnew.com -> ns4.smfnew.com

What does this mean?

Instead of our Administrators (Matt Alex) having to concentrate on server issues - we are now free to continue developing SMFNEW network. This includes releasing our control panel to manage all your forums (Yes it is coming back - open for BETA testing soon)

So please do let us know by voting in this thread if you have noticed better load times.

Side Note

We will be upgrading all SMF 2 RC 4 forums to SMF 2 GOLD in the next few days. We're also going to install some themes and modifications. ;)

News & Updates / Private Domains & Pro Hosting
« on: June 29, 2011, 10:17:01 am »

If you are using a private domain name for smfnew, mybbnew or even a pro hosting customer, then you will need to update your nameservers from

ns3.smfnew.com -> ns1.smfnew.com
ns4.smfnew.com -> ns2.smfnew.com

If you are using a private domain on our free services, you will need to re-apply for it to be added to your forum. SImply reply to this thread with your forum and domain and i'll add it for you.

Hello,

We switched to our new server last night. The new server not only has better hardware; it is also behind a better network.

We're still ironing out any last bugs we need to fix. If you have any problems with your forum, please create a new thread in the support section.

Hello,

If you have any database errors please reply here with your forum link and the time the error began (GMT +/- timezone) and we'll investigate it ASAP.

We're expecting to go down for the next half hour from the time of this post for some database maintenance server wide.

Thanks,
Matt

News Archive / Downtime
« on: June 19, 2011, 06:42:33 am »
Hello,

Recently, and still ongoing, we are having many problems with DOS's combined with server software issues. These are very complex issues, which we are still working on.

We apologize for the downtime. We're also working on getting a new server inside a new network. Don't think we're not working on these issues, it's all we've been doing the past few days!

Thank you,
Matt

News Archive / SMF 2 Gold and SMF 1.1.4
« on: June 12, 2011, 05:06:01 am »
Hello,

We will be upgrading all SMF 2 RC 4 forums to SMF 2 Gold, which has just been released, in the next couple of days. We will let you know as soon as we can when the upgrade will take place and any downtime that may occur.

Also, all SMF 1.1.13 forums will be upgraded to SMF 1.1.14. You shouldn't expect any downtime for this small upgrade.

Will keep you updated within this post.

EDIT 12/6/2011 12:40

Good news! The SMF Gold update isn't as big as I thought it was, looks like we'll be upgrading pretty soon!

EDIT 14/6/2011 09:47

We upgraded SMF 1.1.13 to SMF 1.1.14 last night.

News Archive / Terms Of Service

Just a quick heads up that we have changed our terms of service for SMFNEW.

It is imperative you read the terms again, as a few new clauses have been added, which are very important to you (Example: deleting inactive forums).

News Archive / Essential Database Maintenance (Affects all SMF)
« on: February 21, 2011, 08:51:57 am »
Hello,

We are going to need to perform further database maintenance. Unfortunately, this is going to affect all SMF forums.

All SMF forums will be down later today, for a maximum of 40 minutes.

Thank you.
