Shout box
« on: June 27, 2012, 11:41:36 pm »
The reason i didnt post this in suggestions was because this is for this forum not all the other because they already have it

You guys should add a shoutbox to the support forum (simple portal shoutbox maybe)

It will let people chat will other people :P

I'll let you in on a little "secret" (well, not really a secret :p ) :

We used to have a shoutbox available to our users to just have a friendly chat with each other in a quicker way, but it proved to be much harder to monitor than the forums themselves, for rule-breakers and spammers. ;)

EDIT: This shoutbox actually was removed before I even joined the team, so I barely remember it. ;)

yeah, i had a shoutbox on my forums, but it was to hard to track people that needed help and people that spammed it.

Well they can make it so people with 10 posts and above can access shoutbox (i think)

and they can make it so there is a notice saying no help in shoutbox or something? :p

Yeah, but still - it would be hard to monitor rule-breakers.

Of course it matters. We don't want our community fouled-up by people too ignorant to follow the rules. ;) Plus, sometimes people can be very bully-like, and we'd hate to have anyone leave our community due to being pushed around. :)

No not the ignore thing thats not what i mean
I mean

Isnt it ok if people ask for help in the shoutbox or is it bad because that means there will be less support topics?

No, if we had a shoutbox (other than the one available to our staff), it would just be for community chat. We'd have to enforce it so much, between rulebreakers and people asking for support, that we would probably shut down within weeks of release. :P

A shoutbox on a forum like this just does not work! You would need a staff member just to moderate that alone. It would be more of an hindrance than it would be a benefit to the site :)
