Title: Domains we do not accept
Post by: Alex on October 12, 2011, 04:29:48 pm

Hi all,

We are no longer accepting domains from the following extensions;

co.cc

We will keep this updated as further bans on free domains may take place.

This is due to Google removing the ability for these domains to return search results.

Thanks,

Alex

So, are we aloud to have our domain be from a friends website or such?

I'm not sure what you mean, could you clarify?

What I mean by that, is I have a friend that would give us a free website domain, and instead of us being http://www.merchscape.smffy.com we would have the domain he gives us. (I don't want to give the domain away to his website in case something went wrong, or it was mistaken for some form of advertisement.

As long as it's not a .co.cc domain.

Your friend, of course, would need to put the proper DNS information when registering it, and you would need to change your forum's domain through the control panel, located here: http://www.smfnew.com/manage

I don't even think this guy needs to do that. What he was going to do was copy down the functions of our forums and transfer them over to his website with a different domain so we could have a place to store files and all for our server. (Wait is moving it all over illegal...?)

I don't believe so, but if you're planning on transferring your forum to a different server, you will have to pay $56 to get the files.

I don't think he was planning on paying $56. I believe he could get them on his own. What he is doing is copying down our forum piece by piece (Or will at least). Just warning you this guy in his freshman year of highschool hacked into every computer and had it start playing pornograpy as a joke.

He can try to make a replica of your forum, but the only way he's getting your posts, members, and mods/themes installed is to purchase a backup. We're confident that our system security is secure enough to block any kind of junk. (Which, by the way, I hope he knows that cracking websites/computers is illegal, and if we wanted to, we could pursue legal action against him if he causes any damage to our servers/forums)

Yes he does. He is the cautious one in his family. Funny story I can tell you about his cousin sometime.
