OK, thanks.  Now I just need to work out how to change all of the URL's in forum posts to the new domain.

Thanks.

If you don't recommend the SMF backup feature, then what do you recommend?  This is what I do personally for forum backup:

Code: [Select]
mysqldump -u mysql -p smf > smf.dump
(plus backing up the attachments folder, which I plan to clean up a bit before migration)

And one more question:  Where do I send my database dump for starting a new forum on createaforum.com ?

Thanks for your fast response.

I'll look into createaforum.com.

2.Yes, we just need the database dump. No cost.  No limit on size of database. There are limits on attachment space.

What is this limit?  Are the attachments dumped with the "Backup Database" SMF feature if I check all the boxes?  Here is the size of my uncompressed dump:

Code: [Select]
> ls -l ~/Desktop/smf-complete_2019-10-30.sql
-rw-r--r--@ 1 phil  staff  65341834 Oct 30 12:55 /Users/phil/Desktop/smf-complete_2019-10-30.sql

I currently operate an SMF 2.0 forum for free support of an open-source software package and am looking for an alternative host.  I have a few questions about SMFNew:
  • I expect to be operating my forum for another 20 years.  What are your plans for the longevity of the SMFNew site?
  • My current forum has 7.5k members and 48k posts.  Can I migrate all accounts and posts to a free SMFNew account?  If not, what is the cost for this?  Is there a limit on the size of the database for a free SMFNew forum?
  • I read in a post here that SQL database download is a paid feature.  Where is this explained, and what is the cost?
TIA for your answers.

- Phil
