What happened?!
« on: August 12, 2011, 04:54:50 am »

Hey all,

As you will have seen the last 3 days have been hard on our servers, unfortunately our drive on server 1 was failing, we had to act quickly which is why we didn't have any advance notice, if we did not act all users data would have been lost (although we have backups would have taken much longer to move over)

So what happened?

We put in the new drive and simply began moving over the data, this was causing a large amount of I/o requests which resulted in slower load times.
Due to the amount of traffic smfnew receives the sync was taking a long time. Yesterday we took the decision to turn the server off to traffic to make sure everything was synced quickly before the drive failed.
All data is now over and if there are any issues please report them ASAP.

We are extremely sorry for this downtime but do not predict further downtime as a result of the maintenance.

I hope you all are forgiving and understand this was nessissary to protect your data.

If you have any questions please ask,

Thanks,

Alex

Hi, I received this message today when opening my email:

Code: [Select]
There has been a problem with the database!

This is a notice email to let you know that SMF could not connect to the database, contact your host if this continues.

But, since I created my forum, I'm having problems with the theme used: Black Rain. :p

The theme buttons and smileys disappeared, a message is always appearing at the top of the page:

Code: [Select]
The default theme's directory is wrong, please correct it by clicking this text.
Please take a look at my forum and see if you can fix it!

My current forum belongs to domain 'Forumotion (phpBB3)', but definitely would like to migrate to SMF, and I believe SMFNEW, is the best option available today.

Please help me! Thank you for your attention!

PS: I'm Brazilian, and the translation was made directly by Google.

Firstly, do not speak like that on these forums.

Secondly, if you asked nicely we were testing a new backup system which didn't work efficiently so is not used any more and are going back to the old system.
