In regard to this:

Blah blah not easy hosting that many forums, whatever. You're singing from the same hymn sheet because you haven't got a clue what's going on.

"Sorry guys this is doing my head in, taking ages", not exactly an update. Surely he has a better timescale like next week, next month, next year?

Just an ESTIMATE of when it's going to be fixed, because THIS IS A JOKE.

You either need to use the profit you're making to hire more administrators to sort out your issues or find better administrators and sort it out.

EDIT: It took nearly 10 minutes and 2 "error" pages to post this, you guys really need to sort your crap out. Why people choose you is beyond me.

EDIT: You're hosting 58,231 free forums with 5,097,237 posts. To my recollection, not all of these forums are down because of the server issue therefore your post is incorrect. Get me an answer from Alex or whoever runs this ****.

I want to state that whatever I've posted in that guy's thread was not a complaint but an observation about his situation, which remains his situation and not mine.

I don't complain about my free hosted forum because it's free.

But I know where this guy is coming from because he's paid money, and I know where he's coming from because people with forums have communities that are at risk of being lost because of forum unreliability, even if the community is on a free hosted forum.

Look at it this way--some of us on free hosted forums are giving SMFNew a trial before shelling out money, and any grief that paying members get even after paying is a disincentive for free hosted boards to go Pro.  If a free hosted board loses people from the community due to unreliability, it's a cost to the free board all the same when people are lost from the community.

When people pay for an account, support is paid for, and that includes getting notices about server situations.  Especially getting notices about server situations.  I'd like to pitch in and help out if I could but staffers also have developed a lousy "bedside manner" when I do.

Fine, be that way.

I'll just run my li'l community and mind my own beezwax, but so help me if I lose any of my people....

Here we go again with (apparent) server issues. So it seems. Any page except the portal page can't be found.

Show Off / Hypercrites -- for political animals :)

It gets rough here and that's why we have a Rubber Room.

Insofar that freedom of speech doesn't get either me or the host into legal trouble, freedom of speech reigns supreme on this forum which has members from now-defunct forums like Arianna Online (Huffington dropped it when she founded the Huffington Post) and Air America's official forum, Air America Place,  and PBS Discussions, dropped by PBS.

Hypercrites has also been a refuge of people who get banned from other political boards--we love our trolls here--which is why it's also called "the land of the banned".

If you can handle the freedom, come on over and join us in spirited political discourse.

Support / Board inaccessible due to database error
« on: July 12, 2012, 09:44:16 am »
Add my board Hypercrites to the list of boards that show database errors. My particular error message reads

Quote
Table '37697_smf2_log_online' is marked as crashed and should be repaired
File: /home/smfnew/public_html/smf/2/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 2680

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 2.0.1, while your database is at version 2.0 RC4. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.

...and although I attempted to post about this yesterday, this board was inaccessible due to a Table sessions crash, according to the error message. I went on Twitter and tweeted my particulars to this entity on Twitter. I'm relieved that I can post here today, but I and my community want my board back.

Support / As requested, a new support topic...
« on: May 08, 2012, 04:07:03 pm »
...although if updating the SMF boardware isn't unique to my board, I don't see the point of a new topic...

It isn't already fixed as of the date of my posting here. My board is still on the old version of 2.0. I thought that waiting the thing out because management has to do the upgrading would be what the deal was, but here we are.

And elsewhere I heard that SMF 3.0 is in the works but won't be ready for years. :(

Could you create a support topic with a link to your forum so we can take a look?

And yes, 3.0 is in development, but because there's a treasure trove of added features that will come with 3.0, it likely won't be finished for a while. ;)

I suspect this is how attackbots get names to guess passwords for...as a matter of fact, the IP does look familiar (as in bot IP), but I'd like to know exactly what this means.

The SMFNEW version of hypercrites is loosely based on the two SMF boards I have set up on Go Daddy, just so that I can test-drive SMFNEW. I'm contemplating moving off of Go Daddy and setting up here instead, going pro.

The free board discussions/data will not get transferred if I decide to go pro, and it will be a fresh RC5 installation (my current board is stuck in RC2 because of all the mods) and at the time I should make this decision, hopefully all the favorite mods I use on my original board will have been developed for RC5 (arcade, file manager, new-registration membergroup, Avea, Gallery...gee, I forget what all.  I think the old Gallery actually works with RC5 (already tried that) and Avea might, too.

Still testing the waters.

Actually, pro hosting gives you total access over your forum, and what you want to put in it. (Now, if it violates the TOS of SMFNew/MyBBNew, it will be disabled) Plus, not to mention, it's not super expensive. It's actually a decent price compared to other hosting services. It also comes with many benefits, including priority support, if you let us know by your topic prefix that you have pro hosting.

Also, please do not bump old topics unless you were the original poster, who is answering a support staff or admin answer.
I don't understand the old topic bump rule as this old issue remains an issue even though I'm a newbie here. Okay, here's the new thread with the old topic even though I'm still scratching my head over it.

Now then...where can I find a schedule of prices to compare with Go Daddy's?  I will have full access to files, back them up on the server, and all that? And I would like to read the TOS for myself to compare with Go's. I've been running an uncensored political-oriented board, adult level,  and would like to continue doing that...yet I've noticed that on the free version, the catagory of Politics isn't even on the menu, and so I'd like to at least put that language/topic red flag to rest, if it can be put to rest.

Thank you for any light you may shed on this.
