Support / Re: Database error: No Sent Message
« on: October 18, 2012, 09:50:50 am »
Forum is realskiers.smfnew.com

Sending messages works, but the message doesn't get saved in the Sent folder, and I getn a message that says "Database error: please try again and if you come back to this screen then report it to an Administrator."

Obviously, since we can send messages, this isn't that big an issue compared to some of the others, but wanted to make someone aware of it.  Let me know if this should go in another thread.

Question:
Do you click the box each and every time you send a message to save it to your sent box, or do you have it set in your profile to have it automatically save to your sent box?
Have tried it both ways. By default the box comes up checked. Tested that.  Another message, unchecked the box and then rechecked it.
No error message when sending, but then get the error message when I go in to see what I sent.
Thanks.

Support / DB error sending a PM
« on: October 06, 2012, 03:57:34 pm »
My "realskiers" forum appears to be up, and I was able to create a new thread and topic.
However, I get an error message when trying to send a PM (letting users know what has been going on) that indicates that the forum is version 2.0.1  and that the database is version 2.0 RC4 and saying that might be the source of my error.

When you get to it.  I'm sure this is probably a problem general to all the SMF forums.

Things are REALLY slow. It took me about 3 minutes PER PAGE to even to to this point on the support forum. My forum may have been up for a while earlier in the week, can't get to it now, but I don't know if that is a continuation of the problem or just because the whole system seems so slow.

It won't take much longer.
Alex/Jaekob:
1. Could you post a completion message once the forums are back up. I would hate to be sitting patiently only to find out that there was an additional unique problem with my forum and no one was aware of it.
2. Are you doing the forums alphabetically, so that you can say A thru K have been completed or any other running status information that makes sense?
3. Are you anticipating completion in days (like tomorrow) or is the outage likely to be another week.

Hopefully you find an automated way to rebuild each forum's permission rather than hand editing.
Best wishes,
Jim

Hmmm. Well I tried to go to the Order page, and got an error message there -- so much for sending SMFNEW a little bit of money.

Follow-up.
On the page http://pro.smfnew.com/order/cart.php clicking on the "Order Now" button generates the following message. Note the missing N in the URL.

Oops! Google Chrome could not find pro.smfew.com

Trax:
I'm sure you all have been working extremely hard -- it's always frustrating when you have a server that is down or a rebuild or move that goes bad.
However, I'm also sure that BP was working extremely hard during the Gulf Coast oil spill -- but they still understood the value of attempting to keep the community informed of what was going on.
You and Jaekob keep mentioning a server move. Did I miss the message that there was going to be a server move that MIGHT cause an interruption of service. I even checked www.twitter.com/smfnew and didn't see any information there.
I checked this support forum (after my site went down) and nothing here.
I, for one, didn't even know if SFMNEW was still in business or whether you had shuttered the doors.  I did get some email addresses from a prior host site so that I could email senior users and let them know that the problem wasn't limited to our site and they hadn't been banned, but that I had no other information about what might be going on or how long it might take.
I'm not overly frustrated, my life doesn't depend on the forum. This did point out disadvantages of not having a backup of my forum.

I've been getting the same error for several days now when accessing my forum site via Sprint or Verizon, and many of my users are having the same problem.
I can access your site from the office, which uses XO communications for internet access, so I assume that this is really a DNS problem.

But if this is the support forum for SMFNEW, then it seems like there should be something posted here to give people an idea of what is going on.

I will say that performance is tremendous right now, either because of the changes or because most people can't even access your site.  Performance for the past 4 months has been poor enough that I am considering moving.  I'm not convinced that using your PRO service would be better?

Anyway, not all of the world is interested in following you on Twitter.  What's going on?

My forum is www.peakskierzone.com

He lost his password, but he's going to help us with forum support?

I think I'll pass.

Feedback / Performance concerns (again)
« on: April 26, 2012, 05:54:56 pm »

Response was poor most of last week.
I noted a post that you had found a problem.  Performance improved (and I got a lot of PM email messages repeated).
That last for a couple of days.
Performance today is really slow again.
Have you considered getting some monitoring software that shows page delivery times, because 2 minutes to download a page should be a hint that something isn't right?

Alex:

I have made the Name Server changes on GoDaddy, pointing them at NS1 and NS1  on SMFNEW.com

Reminder.  I would like for  www.realskiers.smfnew.com to remain active for 6 months.

Support / Renaming our forum and establishing external domain name
« on: February 22, 2012, 05:08:40 pm »

I plan to establish a direct domain name to my forum, but would like for the old URL (www.realskiers.smfnew.com) to remain active while users adjust to using the new URL (www.PeakSkierZone.com).  Some of my users don't get on that often, and I would like to provide a safety net in case they miss the notifications that the name has changed.

I think I understand the use of the control panel,
and I understand the nameserver IP information that I need to enter at GoDaddy.

Yes, fixed.

Thanks, Matt.

I get the following error when I try to Register a new user on the new forum.  This is a forum that Matt was able to migrate from an earlier 1.0 version site, so I expected a few hiccups.

"Wrong value type sent to the database. Array of integers expected. (comment_ids)"

Sending a PM for a new database upload.

I reverted back to 1.0.15 hoping that would give you a better database to work with.  It eliminated the Copyright error message that had been happening.

Matt:

Any progress since I sent you the 1.0.21 version information?

Matt:

I just PM'd you the download location.

Thanks for the update.  Any idea of how soon you'll be able to get to it.

Jim
