Terms of Service problems
« on: May 06, 2011, 02:34:42 pm »
Hello, i'm new to your service, but not Simple Machines. Looks very good. :)

Just wanted to point a few things out to you about your TOS.

  • Section three says that your forum cannot be about drums. I have a feeling this is supposed to say drugs?
  • You refer to Simple Machines as Simple Machines, LLC, however, Simple Machines is no longer a Limited Liability Corporation.
  • There are various other errors with subject/verb agreement scattered throughout the terms.

Nothing too major, other than the drums thing, but thought you may wish to know. Keep up the good work.

I assume that's the case. :P

Simple Machines still puts Simple Machines LLC in the copyright on forums, plus the TOS haven't been updated for a little while, as far as I know. (This includes RC4. They stopped using LLC a while before RC4 was released.)

Could you post some examples?

SMFNEW manually monitor posts (Section 6)   Monitor --> Monitors

SMFNEW have a variety (Section 6)   Have --> Has

SMFNEW backup forums (Section 7)   Backup --> Backs up

SMFNEW do not guarantee (Section 8)   Do --> Does

I think that's it for now, i'll search around for some more typos later.

I'm not sure about that one, but I believe in that tense, it's correct. If you were to use a pronoun instead of SMFNEW, it would be "we". "We has a variety" sounds odd. ;)

SMFNEW do not guarantee (Section 8 )   Do --> Does
I believe that part is correct, but I'm not sure.

Otherwise, good work in finding those. :)

Heh no problem, but overall it's just little things. Just gets confusing, as I would be alright if it was referring to a group, it's just that different sections use different tenses and whatnot.

Thank you for the amendments. The terms were updated as of this morning.

As serious as these matters were, I did have a laugh about the 'drums'! I hope no one had a topic on the subject of drums here.

Yeah, I cracked up at that too. I think that people probably assumed it was supposed to say drugs, like The Big A did. ;)

Inactivity policy. It has been enabled, I suggest you make a post so it is not suspended again.
