News Archive / SMFNEW Forums Re-Organising
« on: January 24, 2010, 05:07:44 pm »
Hello,

As part of our on-going efforts to provide you with new and improve existing features, all smfnew forums are being re-organised. New forums will not be affected as our system has already filtered these forums into the new format.

What does this mean for your forum

There will be a lot of back-end changes including renaming database tables, moving attachment folders and other minor alterations. All SMFNEW forums will undergo these changes within the next 48 hours.

Naturally, we can not update all 15,000 forums at once. We will be updating forums in stages. You may experience a 'waiting page' while the system filters your forum through the re-organisation.

What will this do for me

Your forum will not be changed in the slightest on the front end. The sole reason for this work is to:
  • Speed up your forum
  • Provide a better framework for us to install modifications (yes i did just say that)
  • Allow us to slash fee's for restoring your forum or adding a new Administration account

Notes

Please allow a few minutes if your forum experiences a 'waiting page' for normal access to resume. Depending on how many forums are in front of yours in the queue to be updated, a slight delay may be seen.

Thank you for your support.  ;)

Feedback / Spam BOT Banning, Your Views
« on: January 14, 2010, 04:23:37 pm »
Hello,

I'm just seeking your opinion. I'm debating whether to create an auto spam bot banning programme on smfnew. Where when a user enters your forum, our system will check if its a recognized spammer, if so, it would show them a banned message.

Just seeking your views. (just looking if anyone will oppose the idea)

 Thanks

News Archive / New Year
« on: December 26, 2009, 05:42:37 am »
Hello,

I'm wanting to wish everybody great success in 2010. SMFNEW and MyBBnew is building at an incredible rate and we wanted just so share with you some of our plans for the new year.

SMF 2

We will be support SMF version 2 on smfnew.com when the stable version has been released. We have already put the foundations in place so that new forums can chose whether to use SMF 1.1.11 or SMF 2. This will enable you to have more control over which forum you use. In addition, if you have seen SMF 2 and do not like it, you do not have to use it. We will be hoping to support hosting of SMF 1.1.x indefinitely.

When we switch over to hosting both versions, all current SMF forums, 1.1.x, will have an option to upgrade to SMF 2. All new forums created with SMF 1.1.x will also have this option. However, you can not downgrade from SMF 2 to SMF 1.1.x

MyBBNew

This year we have been focused over SMFNEW. In the new year, we hope to divert allot of our attention to building up MyBBnew and offering exciting new features. We hope that myBBnew will grow just like SMFNEW has.

FTP & Admin

Recently, we have seen a great number of people asking us for FTP access so that they can install their own modifications and upload their own themes. If you are one of those people, or are unsure of why we do not offer it to you, please read http://www.support.smfnew.com/index.php?topic=1956.0. We cannot offer you these services. We can, however, offer you pro hosting for $9.95 a month, where you will have access to all of these services. For more information about pro hosting, please post in the support section.

A Special Thanks

We hope you will carry on supporting us through 2010, we won't let you down.

I also wish to thank the following members for their support of our network throughout this year.
Nick, Ben Cole and Hellsjanitor.

I also hope that our new moderators, Shawn and Jammerx2 go on to do great things. P.S, I have offered another moderator position to another person who has not accepted, so please carry on sending them in.

I hope to see you next year!  :)

News Archive / Holidays
« on: December 17, 2009, 11:46:18 am »
Naturally, as we approach the holidays, support at smfnew will be slower than usual. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Staff will be taking a break from smfnew over the holidays. Of course, we will still be on hand in case any server or software problems arise.

Support will be back to normal following the new year.

Until then, all smfnew staff wish you happy holidays and a happy new year!  :)
